Summer 25-26

Year 4

Summer 1

This half-term, Year 4 have enjoyed developing their reading, writing and mathematical skills through a range of exciting learning experiences. In Reading, we followed the hilarious adventures of Tom Gates: The Brilliant World of Tom Gates, improving our retrieval, inference and summarising skills whilst exploring the characters and humour within the story. In Writing, we studied The Journey and used it as inspiration for our own narrative writing. We explored the experiences and emotions of characters forced to leave their homes, creating descriptive settings, developing suspense and writing from different perspectives. In Maths, we developed our understanding of decimals, money and time, applying our skills to real-life problems and practical situations. The children became more confident when converting between pounds and pence, solving time problems and working with decimal numbers. Throughout the term, they have demonstrated resilience, creativity and enthusiasm in all areas of their learning.

Year 4

In Reading, we will follow the magical adventures of Peanut Jones and the End of the Rainbow, developing our retrieval, vocabulary, inference and summarising skills as we explore the characters and themes within the story. In Writing, we will use Diary of a Sun King as inspiration for our own writing, exploring Ancient Egypt through diary entries and developing our ability to write in a role using rich vocabulary and varied sentence structures. In Maths, we will deepen our understanding of shape and statistics, applying our knowledge through practical investigations, reasoning activities and problem-solving challenges. We look forward to another exciting half-term of learning, challenge and success.
